The early experience of the Catholic missionaries — in particular the Servant of God, Mother Mary Kevin — reflected a deep love for educating the African child, and especially the girl child, despite the challenges of the time. St. Joseph Nsambya Girls Primary School is evidence of that love: a humble beginning that has seen remarkable growth in every area since.

I acknowledge the great work of my predecessors, the Little Sisters of St. Francis, for their long-sightedness in fulfilling the vision of our foundress, Mother Kevin, for educating the girl child. We are what we are because of their efforts. To our parents, our School Management Committee, and our teaching and non-teaching staff, who have tirelessly given their time, skill and support — thank you.

Since becoming Headteacher in 2017, we have developed a clear vision that holds our school values at the core of everything we do. We strive to ensure every child achieves their academic potential — but our curriculum is for life. We foster love for God, support healthy lifestyle choices, mental health and wellbeing, and the social skills our girls will need long after they leave us.

As a school: we deliver high-quality teaching that promotes high standards and accelerated progress for every pupil. We promote a love of education and equip learners to take ownership of their own learning. We promote children’s self-esteem, their rights and their responsibilities. We create a welcoming atmosphere where children, staff, parents and visitors feel valued. We hold high expectations for conduct, moral purpose and integrity across our whole community. And above all, we ensure our pupils feel safe, secure, and glad to come to school.

All our children belong to family clusters, headed by teacher-patrons, who compete for recognition across academics and events — building a strong sense of belonging alongside a reward system that celebrates positive behaviour all year round.

I am absolutely delighted to say that our school is the best government-aided school in Kampala City, having continuously received awards of excellence — visit our gallery for a look. By the end of Primary Seven, our girls leave as responsible, independent young women, and I am incredibly proud of that.
